After working for thirty years in elementary libraries reading wonderful book to kids, Miss Mac finally decided to write her own. The Book Boss, as she was called, decided to indulge her love of history and biography and write about famous Texas heroines. And, the first one to come into focus was Miss Ima Hogg. Miss Mac published her first picture book about the legendary Texas lady while a student at Vermont College where she completed her MFA in Writing for Children in 2003. That first title, Ima and the Great Texas Ostrich Race, went on to become a children’s musical and also to win publication in “Texas Treasures”, a McGraw-Hill state adopted supplementary reader that is used in all elementary schools throughout Texas. Her second book was about Ima and her little brother Tom, entitled The Wild Texas Stampede. Her most recent book Olé Cinco de Mayo was released in March 2013 and has fun activities for the readers...

Miss Mac goes to Spain

Miss Mac also got to indulge her love of travel when she was invited to visit schools all over the United States and schools even as far away as Siguenza, Spain. It was in Siguenza where Miss Mac discovered her love of Spanish medieval history when she was introduced to a mysterious statue, El Doncel, a nobleman knight who died during the crusades. It was with this knight in mind that she began to tell his story; a story of intrigue and adventures with the knight and his groom, Rodrigo, as they undertake the secret task of teaching Rodrigo to read in the deadly age of the warrior. Researching the history of this period has been a highlight and the new task of writing a novel length manuscript encouraged her to dig into the history and her love of historical characters not only from Texas but from every corner of the world. She appreciates that what makes history enjoyable and exciting is not the facts or the dates, but rather our understanding of the time and of the people involved in the historical events.
